Teensy weensy eggs

We found our first hummingbird nest! The birds have been coming around for years but I’ve never seen a nest until now. It’s not even 2 inches across and the eggs? Well, they are about 1/2-inch long.Β It’s on a trumpet vine stem but it’s well built and secure.

I’ve been checking every day to see if they’ve hatched by setting up a step ladder so I can see inside. Momma bird doesn’t like me.

Every time I get close she flies away and makes a bunch of noise but I try to send a message telepathically that I’m just looking and mean no harm…

But yesterday, she stood her ground and didn’t leave the nest so maybe the babies are coming soon.

I’m checking every day.

It’s my first opportunity to see baby hummingbirds…

… or to make a teensy weensy omelette… πŸ˜‰

Really nice pictures Jenny! We have a few hummingbirds around every now and then. Most of the birds around our property love to swoop down and eat the cat food that we have outside to stop the mice from coming in πŸ˜‰ Great joke about the omelets! We know you better!! πŸ™‚ Also wanted to tell you that my cow timer came in! That thing is funny! πŸ™‚ I bought some fresh lemons and am going to make your awesome lemon bars this weekend. Looking forward to setting the timer!! πŸ™‚ I know you are working on your new cookbook, any ETA’s? Can’t wait for it!!

    Have a great night!

Mama bird needs a name, as well as the babies! πŸ™‚

Years ago (on vacation), I was with my Grandmother, having coffee on the balcony. She was wearing a muumuu with very vibrant orchid pattern & a hummingbird thought they were real! It kept getting very close & then taking off whenever she moved or we made the slightest sound! We were in awe! It must’ve been so mesmerized because within about ten seconds, it would come right back! If only we had a camera, then.

Wow! That has to be the smallest nest of eggs I’ve ever seen. Thanks for sharing such great photos and Jenny, be careful, if hummingbirds are anything like blue jays at protecting their young you could get dive bombed and we don’t want that to happen and you’re right hummingbird omelettes would make some teensy weensy omelettes. You would need a dozen or more to make a regular sized omelette…
Oh and I saw the hummingbird pictures in your photo section and you handle your camera quiet well. I don’t see how you can get so close to something without scaring it off. Great photos as always πŸ˜‰

Those are awesome pictures. It’s so funny because all morning there has been a hummingbird staying close to our bedroom window, and then I saw her sitting on a branch, so still. If you get any other pictures post them please, that is awesome.
