Get the snake!

(First off, I did not take this picture – I found it online) So… last night around 7 pm, Denis and I were out in the back yard and saw a large bird fly over our heads and land in a tree. Denis said, “That’s an owl. Get your camera!” I ran in and got my zoom lens and took some pictures but it was getting dark and the photos were blurred. But still, it was pretty exciting to see it in person. We usually just hear them at night. This photo shows the kind it was… a Great Horned Owl. It was huge! Then I decided to try taking video so I went back for my camcorder. Ready to shoot, I said, “Denis, see if you can get him to fly.” So Denis started flailing his arms and making noise but the bird just stared at us, probably wondering if we had food. “Throw something in his direction, maybe he’ll fly,”  I said. Denis took a lemon off our tree and pitched it hard but the owl was too far away. So we watched him until it got too dark to see. Then this morning I remembered I just bought a plastic snake. It’s so real-looking I had to show the gardeners it wasn’t real so they wouldn’t attack it with a shovel. I should have put the snake on the ground and waited for the owl to swoop down and carry it away. So tonight, I’m setting up a sting. I’m putting my plastic snake on the ground and hiding behind a bush with my video camera to see if he comes back. That could work, couldn’t it? Or do I need to get a job?

The first thing I thought was WOW!! Jenny takes the most awesome pictures! Then I read “first off I did not take this picture” but I was not disappointed, I fell in love with your story! And Denis flapping his arms!! Crack me up sista!! And I bet he did!!! 🙂 I agree with Becky, “I want to see that video”!! 🙂 Thanks for the laugh!!! SHOW US THE VIDEO!!!! BTW, Tuesday morning I got up to go to work and Teka had to go out so bad, I opened up the back door where their leashes are and I couldn’t open the door because a huge spider web blocked the door!! The spider was orange and white and huge!!!! I screamed!!! 5:30 A.M.and slammed the door shut!!! Mike came running out of the shower to see what was wrong. He opened up the door and took a stick and knocked the mother off!!! Teka ended up peeing on the floor because she had to wait so long 🙂 (I couldn’t tell Mike, but I wet myself the minute I saw the thing!!) But I was jumping in the shower after him so what did it matter!! 😉 Hhhhhhmmmmm! I HATE SPIDERS!!!!!

I feel your spider-pain. After I saw your note, I went to take a bath (with spiders on my mind) and saw a HUGE black spider on the ceiling. Denis was out and the spider wasn’t moving so I took my bath with one eye on the ceiling. When I was finished, I couldn’t leave the bathroom in case the spider moved and I lost track of him, so I had to sit in the bathroom, babysitting the bug, until Denis got back. My hero saved the day. 🙂

Oh man!! Jenny you have to hear this! Back in the day when I was 19 or so my parents bought a VHS Camcorder and I was babysitting my baby brother while my parents went out to dinner. Anyway, I decided to try out the new camcorder. I was laying on the couch and zooming in on the ceiling and I saw a spider!!! I hit record and started singing in the tune of “mister sandman” (I wrote this by the way! 😉 “Oh mister spider, stay where you are….don’t want to think about you crawling up my arm, Oh mister spider..call me a bitch..but when I think about you..oh I get an itch!!! Mr. spider… could it be true…I could be so frightened by something like you… and I don’t remember the rest???? But my parents came home that evening and saw that someone had video taped something, so they put it in the player and my mom was rolling while my father kept denying that I was his daughter! (all in humor of course) I also sang it in an english accent!

I have off today! yahhhhh! no work till Tuesday!!

I’m the same way with my camera and my sister thinks I over do it sometimes with my camera…lol…I can see why you have to do things like this. Where you live and the animals you come in contact with just interest you and it hypes you up to do these things, because of your love for nature, your camera and photography. You are just enjoying nature and I see nothing wrong with trying to capture a perfect photo of this owl, so no you don’t need to get a job 😀
I hope your plan works. I would love to see you capture a photo/video of this owl. It would be just another great photo to add to your collection. You’re awesome with your camera. You take really good photos and I think we all enjoy them 😉
Good luck Jenny and keep us updated 🙂
