I did not need to hear that

I went back to the gum guy on Thursday. Here’s my problem: If I was having open heart surgery, I don’t want to hear, “We’re going to crack open your chest with a chain saw, pry you open with a huge metal vice, then start slicing up……” No! I don’t need to hear that! All I need to hear is, “You’re not going to die.”  So I get there and am in the chair with the woman who’s about to work on my infected tooth. This time I know not to look at any of the sharp, pointy, metal tools. Then in comes the gum guy, who said hi to me and then started to review my x-ray with the technician, telling her what needs to be done. “You’ll have to use that long blah-blah tool and get way up into this area here – it may take some time – but you’ll have to scrape all of this out. If she needs more numbing, you can give her another injection.” Hello!! I’m right here!! I did not need to hear that.

I thought about making a run for it. Maybe I should ask for a bunch of Advil & Tylenol… not for the pain… I want to get high. Next time (and there will be a next time) I’m bringing my ipod. If I ran things, every dentist’s office would serve wine.

Jenny, I SOOOOOO hear you on the “Keep the technical stuff to yourself and just tell me I’m gonna live” thing…

I worked at a grocery store and back in 2006 I had a frozen cake fall on my face and break my nose.. The ONLY surgery I’ve ever had was a tonsillectomy when I was 7. This surgeon comes in and says “You have saddle nose. We need to take bone from your rib or hip and rebuild your nose.. Now what we’ll DO is…” and he started to go into details… Needless to say, my nose is STILL broken and there isn’t a horse around to ride it…. =(

    Hope you’re feeling better… 😉

    Hi Jenny,
You were so amazingly generous to honor our Los Angeles River Project. We have been working hard to continue the momentum that you helped to set in motion. We are having our first mosaic mural building workshop with the artist we hired. We have invited 10 students from Heritage Christian School to join us with this project to make it a real community event. We will be having this building day on Thursday, January 24th from 8:00 -11:00 am. We would be so very honored if you could join us for any time during the project building. I hope you do not mind that I have written to you here. I do hope you are feeling better after your difficult procedure at the dentist.
I hope that joy and goodness follows you everywhere. My awe and admiration,
    Kathy

Kathy, I will be there! I’m so excited that the project is moving forward and look forward to coming back to the school. Damon will be calling you to firm things up and I will bring my camera! It’s my river, too!! See you soon… 🙂

I hope you are feeling better and I don’t think anyone likes a dentist, but we must go. They have too many scary tools and I shut my eyes not to see needles and the tools they use too. It makes it a bit more comfortable and it eases my mind on where I am at the moment…lol…a cleaning shouldn’t be any worse than you brushing and flossing your own teeth, but…noooo!…they make you feel pain regardless if it’s dental work or just a clean…

It seems every time I have a dentist appointment the Doctors tv show is always on. Maybe they are reruns and DVRed. I don’t know. I’m with Kathy. If you are going to play reruns of something play something good like JJ reruns 😉

BTW Jenny, I don’t like taking meds either. I will go without taking anything just to avoid a pill but sometimes you just have to give in. I take Advil as well and it causes me to get sleepy and I end up taking a nap during the day. Oh and Jenny I like your wine idea 😉 🙂

ha ha! K! kissing her feet might be just what she needs! 🙂 My dentist plays soothing music…Yeah right it’s bay city rollers and 70’s stuff that I don’t need hearing when they are cleaning my toothies!!! They use that sharp tool and every beat scares me!! Try getting your teeth cleaned to “Play that funky music.. white boy” !! 🙂 🙂

Ido hope you find peace my sista!!

    Love, you, Sue.

Jenny ? Do you floss after every brushing that’s the secret.

    • Jenny says:

Thanks for asking because flossing is so important. I do floss every day but they said this was not related to my dental hygiene. But still… it’s never fun going to the dentist!

My dentist has a tv over each chair so you can watch whatever you want…I want to watch reruns of your show but you are too young!

Sorry for all of your pain but I hope you feel better soon….

If not, there is always the guy that wants to kiss your feet…

    K
